I have had a busy little week in Han-HQ!
I got my Boss GT-10 pedal (finally) and after 2 days of tweaking and learning, i think I have finally started to understand how to use it. I will include some advice and stuff at some point, so you guys can see what I am doing and how I am doing it. I also learned I can line straight out the pedals, through a soundcard, directly into my computer (GarageBand) To test it out, me and my good friend Jordi set ourselves a challenge to produce an entire song/music video in 12 hours. The video is up on YouTube and is called March Against Monsanto. I am pleased. March Against Monsanto - South Africa/Cape Town are playing it at the March tonight. Mind Blowing. Brief set at the Schooner Bar in Ramsey last night, where I learned that drunken driving off the loop pedal and new technology is not for me. I wont be doing it again... Although, I did do an improv song...as I am hoping to busk, I am trying to get better on my feet.... Here is a link to the recording. https://soundcloud.com/han-fx/schooner-improv Keep on Rockin', because you are Rolling with Han-FX.

OK, so have never blogged before... this kind of kicks off a lot of new starts for me.
I really have no idea how these things work or run, what I am supposed to put, but what I do want to do is share my experiences. If you find it entertaining, or helpful. Thats great! So, it begins... Hi, I am Keiran (Han-FX) and I am just going to tell you a little bit about myself, so going forward you get an idea of where I started. So, I began playing bass at the age of 12 and have played in a few rock/punk/metal bands since. Lots of pub gigs and fundraisers etc etc. I had a major exploratory surgery at the age of 16, where I almost died... and at this point I realised I didnt want to spend my life clocking in, clocking out of my small office space... another blip in the petri dish of battery farmed mens... But, you have to pay the bills... so, I did what I hated and worked in the financial industry for a few years. Getting more upset by the disappearing years, and another life threatening surgery due to complications from the prior one, i decided enough was enough. At 21, I moved out of the office and into a yurt. Here I met some wonderful folk, learned some truly amazing life lessons and re-affirmed that it is not my place in the 9-5 world. I was living and working close with a green wood worker, who was born of a different time, and as such had different opinions of the world, the system etc etc... I loved this lifestyle, however did not have the years to dedicate into that particular field of expertise. I did learn I was born to be nomadic. After a few years of loneliness in the woods, i moved into a party house with a group of musicians and joined a reggae band. Everything seemed to be going so well, but with a more rapid level of success than any of us were used to, certain stresses became evident... A band is a circle, a circuit and if one part of that circuit is not happy, the rest will not work. Everyone wants something different out of music.... whether or not its for your words to reach and inspire, or your bass lines will make people groove... or to be 'rolling on dubs with yo bitches and hoes'. Everyone has different ideas. All I knew after this point was that I knew I wanted to make music... and I wanted to do it on the move. So, I acquired a loop pedal in March this year and started throwing some basic guitar lines down and jamming with the sax player from the previous band. One gig, he couldnt show up, so was replaced with a melodica! I then realised that if i learned to beatbox and manipulate my voice using effects pedals and what not, i could start producing music (quickly) and on my own. Not having alot of money, i started to sell my tools from my previous life, i took up the paintbrush and i have been squirrelling the pennies away, one at a time. I now have a microphone, my effects pedals and a case to carry them in. I have paid for my driving lessons... all i need is a van, a big speaker and a battery and me and my dog are going to hit Europe. I am going to make music independently, without labels, managers etc etc. I want to just play, if people want to hear it, they will stop, if they enjoy it, they might stick a penny in the bag. If they really enjoy it, they might buy a CD. This way I can connect with the people who will be interested in my music directly. I am not interested in making 'cream cheese money', if i can cover my petrol and brown rice, then i will be happy :) So, I will be keeping up the blog, letting you guys know what struggles I am hitting, letting you know what targets I have achieved. I will be recording some music, and some live videos and i will be hitting the streets more and more. So keep an eye out ;) One love. |
